The Martha's Vineyard Museum is dedicated to furthering an interest in, experience of, and appreciation for the history and culture of the Island and its environs.
The Museum was originally known as the Dukes County Historical Society. It was founded in 1922 and incorporated the following year. The founders first acquired revolutionary era documents, which started the collection.
Martha's Vineyard Museum has detailed and thoughtful exhibitions on a variety of topics and offers collaborative educational programs, as well as preserves and is continually building its library (open to the public) and archival collections.
